2008-10-15 13:03 - I've been busy

I've recently heard from someone that someone had been saying that I should update this more... hmm.

But I've been busy! As a short recap:

  • Finishing a paper I'm very happy about, final stages now! More on this as soon as it is actually published :)
  • The giant TRECVID deadline race is over, at least for this year, and I've just booked tickets for the TRECVID workshop in November. Yup I'll be near Washington in November. Any American-ish stuff I should pick up?
  • I've got the rest of my PhD figured out! It's a good feeling to know when to do what, and when to have papers finished, and what they will be about! Experiments to do and papers to write!
  • Our home in Zaandam is beginning to look nice! A housewarming party might finally be within reach :-)
  • When I wasn't fixing the house, writing papers, or programming semantic video search engines I was photographing or LARPing, or both at once.

Uhm, LARP??

Yup. My girlfriend actually nudged me into it, and I must say I like it a lot. I met a lot of great people in a short time, many of whom I now consider to be good friends. It also allows for some very interesting pictures.. Let me give you a short recap of the last couple of months:

I photographed the Camarilla while they where recapturing Eben Emael from the Sabbat, during Lextalionis: The Siege.

In August, I was in Mriakra, where Angels and Demons and transdimensional pets had reason to fight eachother, and even went to hell and back again during Myriad II, a smallish LARP which definitely has an interesting storyline and a lot of potential.

Finally, in October, at Symbols 8: Chance, I visited the village of Runewall, a heavily guarded village, frequented by mistbeings and other weird creatures, where I played Yannis, a visiting alchemist with a small batch-request for the local alchemists.

I could probably say a lot more here, but I'll leave it at this for now. Feel free to ask though! Or, alternatively, see more here. Summarization effort: I tried something new, met a lot of amazing people, and found a nice place to make more pictures :)
